All precautionary measures have now been concluded, and normal bridge operations have been resumed.
Current status of the Rainbow Bridge
All precautionary measures have now been concluded, and normal bridge operations have been resumed.
Rainbow Bridge operations are currently paused as a precautionary measure. While paused, transfers between Ethereum and Aurora & NEAR, including finalizations, will be unavailable.
No funds are lost. We are working on getting the bridge back up quickly. Thank you for your patience.
The Rainbow Bridge is back! Due to Ethereum's migration to PoS consensus and its increased time to block finality, the bridging time for transactions from Ethereum is also increased to ~20 mins. Also, for the ones running watchdogs - please update the address of `NearOnEthClient` to "0x3FEFc5A4B1c02f21cBc8D3613643ba0635b9a873" to keep on contributing to the security of the bridge.
The Rainbow Bridge and transfer finalization to Ethereum were paused on September 11 at 12:00 UTC. We will resume operations after The Merge, as soon as we feel certain about the safety and success of the upgrade. Users will be able to finalize any pending transfers after the Rainbow Bridge is unpaused. Read this blog article to learn what you need to know about this important event.
The USN maintenance is over, and all systems have been returned to operational.
USN token is under maintenance. Please hold off transferring USN until further notice.
The Rainbow Bridge maintenance is over, and all systems have been returned to operational.
Rainbow Bridge operations are currently paused for maintenance. While under maintenance, transfers between Ethereum and Aurora & NEAR, including finalizations, will be unavailable.
The previously reported NEAR RPC intermittent issues have been resolved. Bridge transfers to NEAR and Aurora should no longer be delayed and all pending transfers should be finalized.
The NEAR RPC is currently experiencing intermittent issues that are causing delays on transfers to NEAR and Aurora, and may affect connection to NEAR wallets. We do not have an ETA on when the NEAR team will have these issues resolved, but they are actively working on it.
Transferred funds are safe, and transfers will be completed once these RPC issues are resolved. It is also safe to initiate transfers currently; just be aware their finalization may be delayed.
The Rainbow Bridge update correponding to the NEARCore update is now complete, and bridge operations are fully restored.
On Saturday, December 18 at 10:00 UTC, the NEAR Protocol upgraded NEARCore to version 1.23.0. This upgrade requires a corresponding upgrade of the Rainbow Bridge, and until that upgrade is completed, transfers to Ethereum will be delayed. It is currently estimated that the update will require approximately 24 hours.
Note that it is safe to continue conducting transfers during this period; one just needs to be aware that finalization of such transfers can only happen after the update is completed.
The small number of transactions affected by the NEAR epoch 1262 issue have been finalized on behalf of Aurora team. No user action is required. If you believe your transaction has not been finalized, please reach to our support team using the icon in the bottom right corner of the screen, and include the transaction ID of your source transaction.
It is currently not possible to finalize transfers to Ethereum made during Near Protocol epoch 1262—Tuesday, December 7, from approximately 10:00h to 22:00h UTC. We are currently investigating but have not yet identified the root cause, and therefore do not yet have an ETA for resolution.
The DDoS attack has been mitigated, and full access to the Aurora RPC endpoints restored.
Part of our DDoS mitigation involved blocking access from some regions of Asia and Russia. We expect these measures to be temporary, but if you are having issues connecting to the Aurora network with MetaMask, and are in these regions, you may solve the problem by using a VPN.
The DDoS attack has been mostly mitigated, and so access operations should again appear normal. The RPC endpoint is catching up on past data, so for some time still balances on Aurora will appear incorrect.
We have added more capacity to our RPC endpoint, and have deployed mitigations against the DDoS. The situation is much better than yesterday at this time, although some users are still reporting delays on network connections and balance displays. In the meantime, we continue working on the situation, and as a reminder funds are safe.
The Aurora RPC endpoint is currently under heavy load and experiencing a DDoS attack. We are working to resolve the situation, but in the meantime, this will affect the usage of the bridge to and from the Aurora network. Funds are safe, however, the situation will affect balance display and availability of funds temporarily.
Please consider the purpose and urgency of your transfers when considering the use of the bridge until this is resolved.
